You don't know that. You don't know what the team has done or plans to do.

Right now it is all he said, she said.
Burton may be batshit crazy, but his girl friend may be as well. I know I have had crazy hotties in the past that I would not touch nowdays, but dumb young me was not thinking with his top brain.
I agree there is a lot of smoke around the guy, but maybe one of his many bad decisions was a crazy girlfriend who decided to try and ruin his life?

Not just drafted him (only 24 picks after Burton's pick), but used 3 draft picks to trade up and draft him. Then benched Andy Dalton on his birthday in order to start Finley. Only to find out Finley didn't even have an NFL-backup-caliber arm which seems like could have been known after seeing him throw once. He couldn't even stay in the NFL for the preseason after we cut him, let alone not hang onto a practice squad.
Finley helped get us Burrow though.

He shouldve been cut after the missing walkthroughs and pajamas incidents. If this is completely true, this incident should easily be the last straw

Ryan Finley beat the Steelers.
He's a winner in my book!
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Has has the actions and overall demeanor of someone that doesn't care. It would be surprising if the team and the players on it didn't try and provide him with help and mentorship. His issues didn't just pop up when we drafted him. They knew who he was.
Also, not necessarily wrong or illegal, but a 23 year old pro ballplayer messing around with a 19 year old seems questionable. He's living a grown man life (or should be) and chooses to spend his time with someone who's a year out of high school. It's not a huge age gap and it's not quite gross, it's just an interesting choice for a dude trying to exhibit some maturity. Hey, at least she was legal, I guess.
I'd prefer that the team not take chances on these kinds of players anymore. They don't need to. Honestly the Taylor era hasn't had a lot of these kinds of issues. If a guy on the team gets in trouble, I can forgive them if he has no record or reputation of turd behavior. When you pick up the rattlesnake willingly, that's less acceptable IMO.

Questionable character of a man at best. Piece of shit at worst. Probably not worth the time and effort to harness that skill, he doesn’t appear the type to work hard enough for long enough to maximise his potential. Shame about the 3rd? round pick though.

I'm thinkin yes, at least so far.
It's between him and Jackson Carman at this point.

If I were to wager, I'd bet he's been offered help in the past; hell Housh talked about "helping him".
Sadly, sometimes they gotta hit rock bottom instead of always being enabled.
Not saying he doesn't need help but he may need to get it for himself.
I'm not comparing it to that. The team kept Devon on the roster so he had insurance. They could do the same here so he had insurance to see a shrink. Holding a knife to one's neck and threatening to kill one's self is usually seen as a plea for help.
You may be right about the rest though. We don't know what's been going on as far as help is concerned. Maybe he does need to hit rock bottom.... it's just I've had friends take their own lives, so I don't take those threats lightly. That's the help I'm referring to.

One of my brothers put a .357 under chin/neck and pulled the trigger. He never was able to handle break-ups or traumatic life events very well. It was mental illness that our family chose to ignore until it was too late.
At this point, the kid is in definite dire need for some professional mental evaluation and counseling. Let's all maybe stop taking shots at him and hope/pray that he gets the help he needs. Human being first. Football should be in the back seat for him right now.
This was exactly my point as well Coach. I'm sorry your family went through this. I've had four friends commit suicide. The warning signs are there, but you don't see them. When someone actually threatens to do it, you call their bluff. Best case scenario....it was a bluff. That's not typically the case though.
I've said cut the bum since he no called, no showed. I still say part ways. But he needs some evaluation....I just feel it would show class on the team's part. That's all.

People are still in denial about Murphy. Give them one more season.

He definitely needs some help. Wide Receiver is definitely on the draft list again, but it already was on the list with the contract situations. Burton is currently on two paths at the moment. One leads to the grave and the other leads to prison.
It would be extraordinary to see the kid get some help, find a healthy home life, and be a WR for the Bengals, but at this point the last one is secondary.
Wtbs, to your point, I think it would be quite admirable for the team to help the kid get some help, and it would probably be a pretty low cost way of perhaps getting a return on their 3rd round investment.
I mean let's take the fact that he is an NFL WR out of the equation. He seems to be a terribly troubled young man and he is certainly in need of some help or guidance.

Spectrum, Pfft. you'd think that at a football factory like Alabama they would have already gotten him the help that he needed..
