I guess Jonah has been posting some videos of his workouts. I understand why he isn't with the team for these "voluntary" workouts, but I wish he was here.
He reportedly (James Rapien today on Locked on Bengals) squatted 600 lbs and did the 5% past 90 degree drop. If this is true, 20 weeks after his surgery, that is great news and hopefully signals a stronger, more fit, Jonah for the 2023 season.
I may be the only one, but I am kind of intrigued at the idea of Carman getting the RT job after a desperate team offers a great trade for Jonah. With that money off the books, they could add another quality vet seeking a ring. Regardless, I am happy to see Jonah going after it.
EDIT: Update: here is the link to his squat of 605 x 3 (Sorry I shorted you the 5 lbs Jonah)
Look: Bengals OT Jonah Williams shares another workout update (usatoday.com)

Would a rotation at RT be plausible? Not many teams have 2-3 starting caliber guys at RT. I cannot imagine a healthy Collins or Williams just not playing at all. Could we see maybe a snap split where attempt to get Collins more run block snaps and Jonah pass black snaps? This would look INSANE in an actual game because to throw defenses off your wanna switch these guys OFTEN, so they’d be running on and off the field ALOT.
I’m obviously not saying run every time Collins is in and pass every time Williams is in. That’d be stupid. But could we create a way to use both and at least TRY and get the majority of Collins snaps on runs and the majority of Jonah’s stats on passes?
Idk. Just don’t see both those guys getting healthy and one not playing. At that point trade a guy or something. Maybe try and put out feelers for nose tackles via trade.

per Orlando Brown
I hope he is a great prognosticator!
https://www.bengals.com/news/lg-cordell-volson-has-a-new-fan-in-his-new-left-tackle
"He's got that Pro Bowl potential with his size and mental makeup," Brown says of Volson after one of the voluntary practices before next week's mandatory minicamp. "I think he really uses his height to his advantage. His mindset and his length are two things that are really going to separate him in the long run.
"I think he has the natural talent and ability to become one of the best in the league at what he does."
"(Brown) gives me tips on how those guys would do some things," Volson says. "He'll say, 'Marshal did this,' or 'Joe did that.' It adds tools to the toolbox and maybe it works for me and maybe it doesn't.
"It's always interesting and cool to hear the perspective of guys who have done it somewhere else. See the way they do things. You can see it from the 30,000-foot view."
"It's a good time of year to be refining fundamentals," Brown says. "Get the timing of your double teams down. Get down to details because we're not scheming up the defense. It gives me time to talk to (Volson), see what he's seen, which allows me to feel what he's feeling and we can get to the point where there's an understanding even if something isn't communicated. He really loves the game. He studies."

TBB Discord Server - Expansion Idea

A bit off-topic for JN, but since TBB Discord is restricted to those in JN, I thought it was ok to post the topic here...
With the launch of Diablo 4 over the weekend, and some (many?) of us accustomed to playing online games from time to time, would it be possible to add voice channel for playing video games together?
That would accomplish a couple things, in my opinion:
1) It would (or could) result in much more frequent use of the Discord server
2) It would (or could) allow for some of us who have been chatting back and forth for years an opportunity to play some online games together and further strengthen the friendships we've made.
What are people's thoughts on this?

Lou is going to HAVE to call cover 2 way more this year

There’s no way around it. Without Jesse Bates(Who at this point is CRIMINALLY underrated for his ability to lock up the whole field from that deep 3rd safety position.) We are going to have to implement more cover 2 to protect our corners.
Iv been seeing that Zac and Lou are REALLY high on Nick Scott’s ability to play single high but with drafting Battle, i have to imagine it’s going to be a hard decision on when to play either Scott or Battle. Battle simply does not have the physical ability to play single high so that leaves only 2 safeties i have ANY comfortability with playing single high and one is a 2nd year man and the other is Scott who was decent in LA but there’s a reason they let him walk.
This year is going to be a game to game dissection of Lou’s football mind and i think he’ll do well. This year is going to be a roller coaster watching the defense.

FA TE Contracts were low across the board

I was in another thread that ended up talking about rookie Battle potentially making his way into some significant reps or possibly starter role this year.
I then starting wondering, "Had Bengals not invested $4 mill APY into Nick Scott and used that plus Irv Smith's $1.75 mill to put toward a better caliber TE, who would have been around that budget?"
It looks like Hurst signed both the highest overall amount and APY for all FA TEs this past offseason - 3 years for $21.75 mill ($7.25 mill APY)
Josh Oliver - 3 years, $21 mill ($7 mill APY)
Schultz - $6.25 mill (1 year only)
Then all other TEs were $4.5 mill APY or under.
Here are all the potential starters who signed just 1-year deals, and could thus be back on the market next year:
Schultz
Gesicki
Hooper
Tonyan
Smith
Unfortunately, what's done is done at this point when it comes to FA TEs, but next year looks to have a really good crop (age when they hit FA).
Guys who fit the preferred age for Bengals and I think could be fits offense-wise in bold.
Henry (29)
Engram (29)
Higbee (31)
Schultz (27)
Everett (29)
Hockenson (26)
Gesicki (28)
Fant (26)
Hooper (29)
Tonyan (29)
Kmet (25)
Smith (25) - If he plays well for Bengals, I'm ok keeping him
Thoughts on this?
Were you surprised to see FA TEs get pretty mediocre contracts overall?
Are there any of the names above that you really want Bengals to target next year?
