Why is York still on the team?
Posted by: Southpaw Frerotte - 01-03-2025, 09:34 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (20)

From what I can tell, York is still on the roster. I realize there’s only one game left (most likely) but he’s clearly not reliable and shouldn’t see the field in any pressure situations. So why haven’t the Bengals replaced him yet with some other free agent kicker who would be an upgrade?

2025 Free Agency - Who do you want, how much would you spend?
Posted by: ochocincos - 01-03-2025, 05:26 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (47)

I wanted to make this thread, as it relates to the mock drafts that some of us have started making in the Draft Central space.

For 2025, Bengals have a projected cap remaining of $60 mill.
The Bengals can free up the following cap by cutting these players:
Rankins - $10.5 mill
Cappa - $8 mill
Stone - $6.5 mill
Hubbard - $9.6 mill

Any/all of those guys helps add a decent chunk of $$ to the available cap, and with so many positions the Bengals will open from impending FAs and upgrades in general, people are starting to think up their wish lists of guys they want added who could hit FA (https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/_/year/2025)

So my question is - Who are some guys you would like to see added in FA next year (or re-signed in Higgins' case), about what cost do you think their value is, and how much would you be willing to spend to sign them?
For example, you may say to retain Higgins, you think his value may be $25-30 mill but you'd only be willing to keep him if he'd sign for $21 mill or less.

*And yes, it's ok to be talking about this even though there is still 1+ game remaining in the season. It's possible to look at 2025 and root for this season in parallel Wink

  Triple Crown & Sack updates
Posted by: Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 - 12-31-2024, 04:43 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (90)

With 1 game left, Joe Burrow has an excellent chance tonwin the QB Triple Crown: Completions, Yards, & TDs. Ja'Marr Chase is in a similar position to at WR: catxhes, yards, TDs. Additionally, with 1 more TD Chase would tie Carl Pickens for the Bengal record for a season and become the 11th member of the 100/1 club at WR, averaging 100 yards per game and 1 TD per game for a season.

Trey Hendrickson is also trying to lead the league in sacks. He would be the first Bengal to do do since sacks became an official stat, though Coy Bacon's 21.5 unofficially led the NFL in 1976.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/sacks_year_by_year.htm

Here is where they stand:

1. Burrow. Leads the NFL in Completions (423), Yards (4,641) and TD passes (42). Here are his closest challengers:

Comp (423): Mahommes (392), G. Smith (387), Matfield (386), Goff (363).

Mahommes is not playing. If Joe completes 25, Smith would need 70 to catch him.

Yards (4,641): Goff (4,398), Mayfield (4,279), Darmold (4,153).

If Joe puts up 250, Goff would need 493 to catch him, Mayfield over 600.

TDs (42): Jackson (39), Mayfield (39), Goff (36), Darnold (35).

Three from Joe would likely put this out of reach. But Mayfield did just toss 5 last week, I think.
--------------------

2. Chase leads the league with 117 receptions, 1,612 yards, and 16 TDs. Here are the chasers:

Catches (117): St. Brown (109), Bowers (108), McBride (104), Nabers (104), Lamb (101), Jefferson (100).

Lamb is shut down and Jefferson too far back. McBride and Naners could hit 117 with big games, and St. Brown & Bowers could top 120. But if Chase gets to, say 125, thst is gonna be tough to catch.

Yards (1,612): Jefferson (1,479), Lamb (1,194).

Everyone is 400 yards behind save for Jefferson at 133. If Chase puts up 100, he'd need 233. Not impossible.

TDs (16): St. Brown (12), McLaurin (12), Evans (11), Higgins (10), Jefferson (10), Andrews (10), B. Thomas (10).

This feels out of reach, but I guess 4 is not impossible. Dang that drop last week, I wanted the Bengals record in 16 and the 100/1 thing. Needs 1 to get each.
---------------

3. Hendrickson. Tied for the league lead in sacks with Garrett with 14 each.

Sacks (14): Garrett (14), D. Hunter, Hou (12), TJ Watt, Pitt (11.5), Va  Noy, Bal (11.5), Van Ginkel, Min (11.5), Bonitto, Den (11.5),  Greenard, Min (11), W. Anderson, Hou (11), Fowler, Wash (10.5), McDonald, NYJ (10).

https://bengalswire.usatoday.com/2024/12/31/bengals-2025-schedule-opponents/

Quote:Thanks to the Lions defeating the 49ers on “Monday Night Football,” the Bengals’ schedule of opponents for the 2025 season is officially locked in. Why was Monday’s game the final piece of the puzzle? It’s because the Bengals are scheduled to host the same-place finisher in the NFC West as their “17th game” next season. The Bengals are assured of finishing in third place in the AFC North, so it was a matter of who finished third in the NFC West, AFC South and AFC West — the Bengals will play every team in the AFC East and NFC North next season.

Also Happy New Year everyone!   :)

I want a physical back next year
Posted by: Bengalfan4life27c - 12-31-2024, 12:43 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (53)

I know we have a bunch of weaknesses. Chase Brown is a nice RB to keep in a committee but we need a physical short yardage back to compliment him. I want 3rd and 1 or 2 to become a strength instead of a weakness. Even more important to have this when Zac is constantly making questionable 4th down decisions.

wish everyone the best..I made my wishes for the new year...8 additional scouts for the Bengals and a real GM..Hopefully with the impending lease negotiations, Browns desire to keep the team in Cincinnati and run by his children and grandchildren and with input from key players like Burrow..we might see some changes..Again..Happy New Year
